For most of us, Sardinia brings to mind stunning sea and beaches that are the envy of the world. But true lovers of the island know that this land offers a wealth of natural wonders and historical, cultural treasures far beyond its exclusive seaside resorts.

That’s why planning a trip to Sardinia at Easter, when spring is in full bloom and the region isn’t overrun with tourists, is a fantastic idea. If you can take a break in the off-season, here’s a 5-day itinerary that’s just right for the time of year.

Booking the ferry

Our itinerary starts on the northwest coast. From the port of Genoa you can take a ferry to Sardinia, reaching Porto Torres after about 11 hours at sea. To find the best prices, make sure to book as early as possible.

5-stop itinerary

Day 1

From Porto Torres, head towards Castelsardo, a timeless village that truly comes alive during the Easter period, with festivities involving the whole community. Wander through the old streets and make your way up to the castle for breathtaking views. From Castelsardo, continue to Capo Testa, a stunning stretch of land with lunar landscapes, connected to the coast by a thin strip and facing the Strait of Bonifacio. End your first day exploring Gallura: Santa Teresa di Gallura, Palau and Arzachena, before arriving in Olbia—all even more charming out of season.

Day 2

Experience the Costa Smeralda out of season—an unforgettable sight. Pass by the summer hotspots usually filled with yachts and celebrities, then reach Nostra Signora de Su Monte, the highest point of the coast, where you’ll be treated to a truly breathtaking panorama.

Day 3

Dedicate this day to discovering the beautiful provincial capital. Take time to stroll through the historic center, relax for a few hours at the nearest beach, and treat yourself to dinner—perhaps near the port.

Day 4

From Cagliari, head to Sant’Antioco, a small peninsula in the southwest of Sardinia. From Sant’Antioco you can reach the beautiful island of Carloforte in about 30 minutes. Alternatively, spend the day exploring the Sulcis area, known for its old mines—a side of the island that’s wilder, more rugged, less touristy, and absolutely unique.

Day 5

On your last day, enjoy a road trip: depending on your departure port, you can choose which side of Sardinia to discover—either the proud, hospitable heartland or the wild, wind-swept western coast. Either way, it will be a memorable journey.
