Built on an older structure, the church was consecrated in 1170 as recalled by a plaque affixed to the right wall of the nave. From the ancient construction, the apse and the left arm are preserved, where architectural fragments from Amiternum are embedded. The building has a Latin cross plan with a single long nave. The apse, decorated with 13th-century frescoes, perhaps the work of the Master of San Silvestro, is preceded by a transept as long as the nave itself.
