Built over an older building, the church was consecrated in 1170 as commemorated by a plaque affixed to the right wall of the nave. From the ancient construction, the apse and the left arm are preserved, where architectural fragments from Amiternum are embedded. The structure is a Latin cross with a single long nave. The apse, decorated with 13th-century frescoes, possibly the work of the Master of San Silvestro, is preceded by a transept as long as the nave itself.
