It is one of the most important Art Galleries in Italy. It was established in 1832 by concession of Carlo Alberto with paintings from the ancient collection of the Dukes and Kings of Savoy. Since 1865, it has been housed on the second floor of the seventeenth-century Palazzo del Collegio dei Nobili, later the Academy of Sciences. In addition to the Savoy collections, works from the collection of Prince Eugene of Savoy – Soissons, the Savoy-Carignano family, and Palazzo Durazzo in Genoa, the Gallery hosts works of Italian, Piedmontese, and Flemish schools and the collection of Riccardo Gualino.
