The First Room is dedicated to the display of papyri and the illustration of aspects, issues, themes, and moments in the history of papyrology. The materials are exhibited in five display cases.

The room also houses a small Herculaneum section, featuring a modern reproduction of the famous machine for unrolling the Herculaneum papyri, developed in the mid-18th century by the Piarist Father Antonio Piaggio. The Second Room contains the Egyptology and Papyrology Library, which holds over 1500 volumes on Egyptological and papyrological topics.

The Room also hosts two display cases: the first contains a collection of ancient pottery from the Eastern Mediterranean and some modern objects recovered from the dump of the University of Michigan Archaeological Mission at Soknopaiou Nesos; the second showcases various objects connected with the world of writing. The Third Room houses the museum’s management and administration. Behind the Museum is the Papyrus Reading and Restoration Laboratory, equipped with a station for optical analysis.
