Surrounded by a moat, Otranto Castle features an irregular pentagonal plan, three cylindrical corner towers, and, on the seaside, a sharp lance-shaped bastion added with external bulwarks in 1578; the bastion bears the coats of arms of Antonio De Mendoza and Don Pedro da Toledo.
Above the entrance portal stands the large coat of arms of Charles V.
