The Museum presents some of the most significant findings related to the two ancient Greek cities of Siris and Herakleia and the indigenous inland centers. The phase of the city of Siris is represented by votive statuettes and funerary equipment from the 7th-6th centuries BC, featuring locally produced figured ceramics, among the oldest made in Magna Graecia.
Among the most significant findings linked to Herakleia are matrices for statuettes found in the artisan district, votive objects discovered in the sanctuaries, and above all important funerary equipment from the 4th-3rd centuries BC characterized by splendid red-figure ceramics and refined filigree gold jewelry. In some cases, these are jewels produced by local workshops, as evidenced by the exceptional discovery, in Herakleia itself, of the tomb of a goldsmith.
The museum also exhibits some of the most important findings from the Enotrian (9th-5th centuries BC) and Lucanian (4th century BC) inland centers. These are funerary equipment of extraordinary importance distinguished, in the 7th-5th centuries BC phase, by bronze armor, silver, gold and amber jewelry, indigenous vessels with geometric decoration, Greek figured ceramics, and Etruscan bucchero pottery.
