The Museum is located on the ground floor of the 14th-century cloister of the Church of San Domenico. It was established in 1918 by the Sicilian Society of National History and officially inaugurated in 1961 on the occasion of the centenary of the Unification of Italy. The Museum aims to document an important historical moment, the one that led to the Italian unity. The collection is set up in three rooms, the first being the Grand Hall. Here you will find paintings, portraits and busts of figures such as some Bourbon monarchs, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Giulio Benso and Ruggero Settimo. The works are largely created by Sicilian artists between the 19th and 20th centuries, such as Morello, Civiletti and De Lisi. In the display cases, you can see banners, handkerchiefs, helmets and weapons. There is also a cannon dating back to the revolution of 1820 and the flag of one of the ships of the Expedition of the Thousand, the Lombardo. In the second room, the Crispi Hall, the study of the statesman is displayed, along with various objects that belonged to him and the marble bust made by Marco Dovì. Also noteworthy are the equestrian statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi, a work by Vincenzo Ragusa, and some documents including the Decrees of 1848 and a letter signed by Ferdinand of Savoy.
