Between 2004 and 2005, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Liberation of Marche and Italy from Nazi-Fascist occupation, a large traveling photographic exhibition was created, displayed in various locations between Poland and Italy, focused on documentary and archival material collected and made available by the Regional Institute for the History of the Liberation Movement in Marche, the Polish Institute and Sikorski Museum, and the Imperial War Museum in London. The traveling exhibition allowed the creation of a collection of absolute interest, to which a permanent location in a regional museum was desired. Thus was born the “Museum of the Liberation of Ancona” (MM 2371), which exhibits the material from the traveling photographic exhibition, completed with: – a photo library, with about 9,000 catalogued and digitized photographic images; – a photographic archive; – a documentary archive, with military documents, press articles, diaries; – a historical library to be made available to teachers, students, and enthusiasts, for historical research and dissertations, containing original or copy publications concerning the relevant historical period.
