Today the Giardino dei Semplici, according to the definition of the Botanic Garden Conservation International (an organization that includes botanical gardens worldwide), is “an institution that holds documented collections of living plants for the purposes of scientific research, conservation, display, and education.”

In 2004, the Garden was named CESFL (Center for the Ex Situ Conservation of Flora) by the Tuscany Region and carries out this activity in collaboration with the Gardens of Pisa and Siena.

With guided tours, workshops, and cultural activities, the Garden opens its doors to citizens and schools to spread botanical culture.

Multisensory tactile and olfactory paths are available for the visually impaired.
