The very building is a tribute to rural life: imposing walls, grand ornamental and supporting arches, two central courtyards—one reserved for landowners, the other for farmers—a 17th-century chapel predating the masseria itself, later converted into a palatine chapel and family tomb. The site also includes towers with guardhouses, a garden, wine cellar, wells, washouse, and more.
The museum unfolds in three main sections. The first is dedicated to popular religious traditions, showcasing artifacts from ancient brotherhoods and associations: banners, standards, flags, shoulder capes, sashes, medallions, and traditional Neapolitan nativity scenes. It also features furnishings from the chapel, items loaned by the Church of S. Pietro, and various donations. The agriculture section presents hundreds of vintage farming tools, both large and small, displayed according to use: plowing and sowing, harvesting and processing, winemaking and cellar work.
Among many unique exhibits, you’ll find an early-20th-century threshing machine and remnants of an 18th-century wine press. There’s also a faithfully recreated farmer’s house from the early 1900s, complete with period furniture and household tools, and a workshop area displaying old shoemaker, carpenter, blacksmith, and hemp combing tools.
The documents section houses hundreds of vintage photographs of marriages, festivals, traditional clothing, and trades, along with original and reproduced documents and maps relating to Naples’s rural settlements, plus a small library specializing in the area’s agricultural casali.
For schools and organized groups, the museum offers practical workshops by request, such as: Cultivate Your Green Space at the Masseria; From Wheat to Bread; From Vine to Wine. In the afternoon, theater workshops for young people—”The Kids of the Masseria”—take place. University students are welcome to conduct in-depth research both on rural culture and on the structure itself.
