The Civic Aquarium of Milan is housed in a splendid Art Nouveau building whose exterior decorations and majolica tiles portray its contents.

It is located next to the Arena Civica and on the edges of Parco Sempione, whose elliptical architecture it replicates. The current layout of the building and tanks is the result of the renovation (2003-2006) that returned the Institute, in its new form, to visitors and the local community.

The Civic Aquarium of Milan was established in 1906, as part of the International Exhibition of Milan. It is the third oldest aquarium in Europe.

Positioned in the current area of Parco Sempione, right in the city center, it underwent a three-year extensive restoration that restored the exterior to its former glory and completely renewed the interiors with new tanks, while preserving the original focus: to offer a detailed view of Italy’s freshwater and marine aquatic environments.
