L’Acquario Civico di Milano is housed in a splendid Art Nouveau building that, with its friezes and majolica, tells its story on the outside.
It is located next to the Arena Civica and on the edges of Parco Sempione, whose elliptical architecture it reproduces. The current layout of the building and the tanks is the result of the renovation (2003-2006) that returned the Institute, in its new guise, to visitors and the public.
The Civic Aquarium of Milan was established in 1906, as part of the International Exposition of Milan. It is the third oldest aquarium in Europe.
Located in the current area of Parco Sempione, in the city center, it underwent a long restoration over 3 years that restored the exterior to its former splendor and completely renewed the interiors with new tanks, while maintaining the original interest: to offer a detailed view of Italian freshwater and marine aquatic environments.
