The capital of the Netherlands during the winter holidays offers its visitors bright and fragrant settings. Along the Amsterdam canals, in fact, you are welcomed by the warmth of the lights on moored boats and the numerous stalls filled with fantastic gift ideas.
Also, walking along the Singel canal, behind the Munttoren and between the Muntplein and Koningsplein squares, you will smell the pungent scent of pine, holly, and mistletoe coming from the Flower Market, all mixed with the intoxicating fragrance of fritters.
Continuing along the Singel, precisely at numbers 508 – 510, it is possible to visit a sort of sanctuary of Christmas decorations. This is the Christmas Palace, which sells Christmas decorations all year round, from the most traditional wooden and fabric ones to the more modern ones equipped with lights and music.
Like the protagonists of ‘Silver Skates‘, you can skate on frozen canals, especially at the foot of the Royal Palace (in Dam Square) where ice rinks are specially set up.
