The archaeological sites, primarily those of Pompeii and Herculaneum, testify to the ancient history closely tied to the territory: towering near Naples is the Vesuvius, an active volcano that reveals its secondary manifestations in the Phlegraean Fields, hills marked by gas emissions and jets of boiling water.
Watching over the region from the sea are the islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida, jewels of great charm known for thermal tourism and elegance. In addition to the spectacular Amalfi Coast, in the southern area of Campania both the inland area, carefully preserved within the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, and coastal zones such as Paestum, Palinuro, Agropoli, and the Gulf of Policastro deserve attention.
