Qatar Airways reactivates services to Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos, Nigeria. The service to Africa’s largest city will be operated, four times a week, by Qatar Airways’ state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner with 22 seats in Business Class and 232 seats in Economy Class. From Italy, the destination is reachable from Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa airports with fares starting at 459 Euros.

The airline will operate a total of 44 weekly flights to the African continent from September, including Mogadishu, with 44 flights a week to Africa and to ten destinations: Addis Ababa, Dar es Salaam, Djibouti, Kigali, Kilimanjaro, Nairobi, Tunis, Zanzibar, Mogadishu, and Lagos.

Passengers of Qatar Airways traveling from Lagos can enjoy more flexible travel options with connecting flights through Hamad International Airport, recognized as the Best Airport in the Middle East. The airline currently operates over 650 weekly flights to more than 85 destinations worldwide, including 27 in Asia-Pacific, 32 in Europe, and nine in North America, such as Guangzhou, Houston, Kuala Lumpur, London, and New York.

The CEO of Qatar Airways Group, His Excellency Akbar Al Baker, stated: “We are pleased to resume services to Lagos and further expand our network in Africa. We know the Nigerian diaspora is widespread worldwide, and we thank the Nigerian government for its support in helping us reunite families and friends with their loved ones. With our fleet’s variety, consisting of fuel-efficient aircraft, we are able to resume flights to Lagos with appropriately sized aircraft that enable us to respond quickly to passenger demand and increase frequencies, offering greater flexibility for travel when desired. With 44 weekly flights to 10 destinations across Africa and plans for further reactivations in line with easing entry restrictions, we are committed to supporting the recovery of international tourism across the continent while maintaining vital supply chains to support African businesses”.

According to the latest IATA data, Qatar Airways was the largest international carrier between April and June, fulfilling its mission to bring people home. This has allowed the airline to accumulate unmatched experience in safe and reliable passenger transport, and positioned it uniquely to rebuild its network effectively. The airline has strictly implemented the most advanced onboard safety and hygiene measures at Hamad International Airport.

The onboard safety measures of Qatar Airways for passengers and cabin crew include providing personal protective equipment (PPE) to crew members and a free protective kit and disposable visors for passengers. Business Class passengers on aircraft equipped with QSuite can enjoy maximum privacy offered by this award-winning business seat, including sliding privacy partitions and the “Do Not Disturb (DND)” indicator. Qsuite is available on flights to over 30 destinations, including London, Paris, and Frankfurt.

Qatar Airways’ operations are not dependent on any specific aircraft type. The fleet’s variety, consisting of modern, fuel-efficient aircraft, has allowed the airline to continue flying with the right capacity in each market. Due to the impact of COVID-19 on travel demand, Qatar Airways has decided to park its Airbus A380 fleet as operating such a large aircraft is not justifiable, both commercially and environmentally, in the current market. The fleet, composed of 49 Airbus A350 and 30 Boeing 787, is ideal for the most strategic long-haul routes to Africa, the Americas, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific regions.

To offer passengers more choice and peace of mind during travel planning, Qatar Airways has also updated its booking policy. The airline will allow passengers an unlimited number of date changes and to modify their destination whenever needed, as long as it is within 5,000 miles of the original. Qatar Airways will not apply any fare difference for travel before December 31, 2020, after which fare rules will apply. All tickets booked for travel until December 31, 2020, will be valid for two years from the date of issue.

The headquarters and hub of Qatar Airways, Hamad International Airport (HIA), has implemented strict cleaning procedures and social distancing measures across all terminals. Passenger contact points are sanitized every 10-15 minutes, and check-in counters and bus gate desks are cleaned after each flight. Additionally, hand sanitizers are available at immigration and security checkpoints. HIA was recently ranked the “Third Best Airport in the World” among 550 airports worldwide by the SKYTRAX World Airport Awards 2020. It was also voted “Best Airport in the Middle East” for the sixth consecutive year and “Best Service to Staff in the Middle East” for the fifth year in a row.
