Il MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Arts is the first national institution dedicated to contemporary creativity conceived as a large cultural campus. MAXXI is managed by a Foundation established in July 2009 by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities. It houses two museums: MAXXI Art and MAXXI Architecture.
The programming of activities – exhibitions, workshops, conferences, laboratories, performances, screenings, educational projects – reflects MAXXI’s vocation to be not only a place for the conservation and exhibition of heritage but also, above all, a laboratory for cultural experimentation and innovation, study, research, and production of aesthetic contents of our time.
MAXXI’s headquarters is the great architectural work, with innovative and spectacular forms, designed by Zaha Hadid in the Flaminio district of Rome.
