Museum of Arts and Traditions of Puglia, Latiano

The Museum was born from the will of some enthusiasts of popular culture who searched for the most varied objects from our recent past, combining them with the environments to which they refer.  The exhibition depicts everyday life, in the fields, in the workshops, in the family. All environments, artifacts, and tools are illustrated with captions in Italian and in the Latian dialect. The Museum represents one of the few connections between modern popular culture and  artisan and peasant civilization.

The educational usefulness of this museum lies in its availability to receive every way of life that was that of the inhabitants of the towns and countryside of Puglia. 

Very interesting in this museum are the reconstructions of the essential environments of the typical Apulian house: domestic, artisanal, agricultural environment. The first, the domestic one, is exemplified by the reconstruction of a peasant house from the late nineteenth century, with bedroom, kitchen, corner for bodily needs, washbasin. The second, the artisanal room, preserves tools of female and male work. 

The agricultural environment is represented by the collection of the most common tools of land work: hoes, mattocks, pitchforks, plows, and harnesses.”
