Il Museo, originally located within the historic village of Corigliano, at the foot of the Ducal Castle, is temporarily closed for the renovation of the premises. Born from an idea by Giacomo Felicetti, the Nativity Art Collection houses a refined selection of works by Italian and international artists, and includes hundreds of works selected directly by the collector Giacomo Felicetti over three decades. Among the most prestigious names: Sergio Bigolin, Aida Crocetta, Alfredo Molli, Angela Tripi, Francesco Scarlatella, Mario Cenere, Giuseppe Parenti, Roberto Barbato, and Romano Dini. Compositions by local artists such as Ferdinando Renda, Luigi Esposito, Antonio De Carlo, Mariagrazia Sangregorio are also exhibited, containing the original tradition of the Corigliano nativity scene, to underline the relationship between ancient and contemporary art. Almost all the exhibited works exalt the fascinating miracle of the Nativity. Some present suggestive settings, with faithful and detailed reconstructions of places and characters, while others are simpler, more minimalist. The materials used range from terracotta to majolica, from soapstone to plexiglass, up to raku ceramics and carved wood, the latter material originally used in the ancient nativity practice. The Museum is divided into four sections according to a geographic criterion. The first and second areas gather Calabrian art, including artists such as Andrea Biffi, Anna Rosaria Romanello, Pino La Fauci, Paolo Condurso and others. The third section concerns the tradition of the nativity scene in all regions of Italy, with internationally known artists. The last section is dedicated to European and extra-European art (Africa, Asia, Americas, Australia).
