Il Museo Interattivo del Giocattolo Povero e del Gioco di strada, detto anche Museo del Giocattolo Povero e del Gioco di strada, ha sede nei locali del sottotetto dell’Istituto Scolastico Comprensivo di Albano. L’allestimento è stato curato da Donato Allegretti, insegnante in pensione originario di Albano di Lucania, con la collaborazione del locale Istituto Scolastico e del Dipartimento di Scienze Pedagogiche e Didattiche dell’Università di Bari.
The museum project aims to research, document, and enhance the traditional play heritage, mainly through the recovery and preservation of popular and traditional toys, poor toys, and street games, which would otherwise disappear. The collection mainly consists of contemporary art on the theme of play, with over 250 works of various styles including paintings, sculptures, graphics, collages, and mixed techniques. Almost all works have been donated by Italian and foreign authors to A.R.CA.GIO’. There is also an ethnographic collection of about one hundred toys from popular tradition, mainly from Basilicata and Puglia, but some toys from regions of Northern Italy are also on display. Most of these objects were collected and donated to the museum by its promoter and curator, Donato Allegretti. Recently the ethnographic collection has been enriched with numerous traditional toys, including various reed whistles and a series of moving toys from the 1950s, handmade with corks and bottle caps. The exhibition is completed by a series of toys made by the students of the Albano di Lucania School Institute, which also includes students from Brindisi Montagna and Trivigno, during a school project carried out in the 2003-2004 and 2004/2005 school years.
