The museum area of the Rome coastline includes two complementary and integrated routes from a museographic and environmental point of view. The first route, which takes place outdoors, encounters the most interesting places in the Ostiense reclamation area: the low and high water channels, the large collection basin of low waters, the ancient and modern hydropower plants.
In the main building of the plant, whose construction dates back to 1884, it is possible to admire the machine room almost in its original conditions, which still preserves the first hydraulic lifting pumps in working order.
In the garden area, life-size models of the farm huts and some agricultural tools are on display. The second route, inside the museum structure, is divided into various sections representing different themes and moments related to the reclamations and the physical and anthropic transformations of the territory: the coastal countryside before the 19th century; the hygienic-sanitary situation of the countryside and the legislation for the revitalization of the capital; discoveries on the modes of transmission of malaria and the anti-malaria fight; the birth of the agricultural labor cooperation in Ravenna; the reclamation enterprise of the Roman coast; the birth and development of contemporary settlements.
In the rooms, historical photographic documents are presented; memories and artifacts; domestic use objects and original work tools; testimonies, songs, sounds, and testimonies in video and audio recordings of protagonists and holders of life memories of the last century; reconstructive sets and plastic scale models of the reclamation area. A special model with water lifting pumps simulates the operation of the reclamation plant.
