L’Antiquarium hosts a selection of materials from some archaeological sites in the Arianese area, a zone of Irpinia located at the crossroads of natural transit routes from the Campanian plain to the Adriatic coast. The exhibition includes a selection of materials found in the prehistoric settlement at La Starza locality in Ariano Irpino, which, from the 5th millennium BC, with brief interruptions, was frequented throughout the entire protostory period up to the threshold of the Iron Age. One room is dedicated to the Samnite settlement of Casalbore, located along the Pescasseroli-Candela cattle track, where a group of tumulus tombs from the 6th century BC and a sacred complex at Macchia Porcara locality centered around an Italic temple dated to the 3rd century BC were identified. For the Roman and medieval periods, the exhibition illustrates the results of explorations carried out in the S. Eleuterio locality, where a center (vicus) identified as Aequum Tuticum was found.
