Flowers, snow, stars. Until January 19 Salerno lights up its Luci d’Artista. It is a spectacular open-air exhibition of luminous works of art installed in parks, streets, and squares of the city of the Salerno Medical School. A journey of lights, colors, and atmospheres that attracts millions of visitors from all over Italy and the world.

Luci d’Artista of Salerno, what to see

There are many suggestions evoked by the Luci d’Artista Salerno in a luminous route that runs along more than 40 kilometers of cables with about five million low-consumption LED bulbs. The authors’ imagination unfolds into true masterpieces that emerge sparkling and engaging from the darkness. The walk discovering Luci d’Artista Salerno offers splendid emotions to share with children, family members, and friends at every step.

Luci D’Artista: what not to miss

  • The Villa Comunale of Via Roma hosts The Zoo I Would Like. Among the avenues and flowerbeds, animals of every species appear that seem almost capable of coming to life at any moment. It is the kingdom of children who move from one attraction to another not to miss a single animal in this enchanted forest. An ark of Noah that also contains a moral: the future of the world passes through peaceful coexistence between man and every living creature, starting from a gigantic luminous elephant 8 meters tall.
  • The Traditions of the Amalfi Coast are the inspiring theme created in Piazza S. Agostino between the city’s Lungomare and the Cathedral of the year 1000. Salerno, from its origin, has an inseparable bond with the sea for fishing, commerce, human and international relations. The sea for Salerno is the past, but at the same time also the future. Vital energy that radiates through the intense colors of the Amalfi Coast, a universal heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Above all dominates the bright yellow of the sfusato lemons, of which you can, with a pinch of imagination, also smell the scent.
  • The magnificent Piazza Flavio Gioia, which in the past hosted a very lively fish market, has become a Golden Forest. A majestic tree dominates the scene, its branches extend throughout the square area creating a true luminous sky.
  • Luci d’Artista Salerno has the magical power to also upset the climatic geography. Here emerge on the Mediterranean Lungomare colonies of funny penguins that from the Antarctica have taken residence on the cliff of the Lungomare and on the beach of Santa Teresa next to Moonlight the work created by Luca Pannoli on the beach most loved by Salernitans and visitors.
  • Snow Trees in Corso Garibaldi and Waterfalls of light in Corso Vittorio Emanuele light up with magic the main city courses leaving everyone with their noses up.
  • Sea waves and tropical flowers, constellations and planets, jugglers and flying teddy bears, light sculptures and reindeer dot the streets and squares throughout Salerno, in a true triumph of changing colors and atmospheres.
  • Enrica Borghi signs a work completely constructed with bottoms of recovered plastic bottles. Her Mosaic, installed among the alleys of the Historic Center, is a strong call for the safeguarding of planet Earth devastated by climate changes, by the plundering of natural resources, by the indiscriminate use of plastic.
  • The things of the World by Ugo Nespolo await visitors along Via Trento and Via Posidonia, the main axis that connects the eastern area with the city center. In Via Santa Margherita and Via Amendola here is Cyrcus by Luca Pannoli.
  • Eduardo Giannattasio created the luminous works inspired by the evangelical story: The Nativity on the Church of San Pietro in Camerellis; the Annunciation on the Church of the Sacred Heart.
  • The myth of Nello Ferrigno embellishes Via Pietro del Pezzo.
  • Christmas light installations starting from the maxi Christmas tree in Piazza Portanova, the angelic processions around the Cathedral of the Holy Patron Matthew, the sparkling installations.

Luci d’Artista Salerno invites to be together, to live in the streets and among people overcoming anxieties and fears of a time full of worries. It is a popular event in which beauty meets the joy of having fun and discovering oneself. With a strong ecological matrix both in the choice of themes and in the use of eco-sustainable and/or recycled materials and low-energy consumption lighting.

Luci d’Artista: Van Gogh, street food and craftsmanship

Luminarie Salerno: Luci d’Artista 2018 – 2019

Luci d’Artista 2018 2019 is an edition that will last over two months. The lighting is scheduled for Friday, November 9 while the switch-off will be Sunday, January 20, 2019.

Yet another spectacular edition for Luci d’Artista in Salerno, the now historic appointment with the wonderful Christmas light displays, with some novelties. Between November and January the Luci d’Artista in Salerno will light up again: the novelties are more than one, all clearly visible from the first lighting. Also this year the city of Salerno hosts an event – which is also an artistic event – of great character and great attraction: there are about 27 kilometers of street traveled by joyful illuminations, from the Villa Comunale to the streets that dive onto the waterfront or that lead to this part of the city.

Also of great impact are the suspensions installed on Corso Vittorio Emanuele, in some ways similar to those of previous editions but not at all predictable. From this area and up to the Villa there are then other figures showing off colors and cheerfulness, in a succession of artistic creations that have no equal.

The luminous works of “Luci d’Artista” in Salerno will remain lit throughout the Christmas period, until mid-January and, since these days, many arrivals are expected in the city: a weekend in Salerno allows living the magic of Christmas being positively impressed by these wonderful tales of light. The next good opportunity could be the Immaculate Bridge but, in any case, Salerno is easily accessible at any time either by plane, flying to Naples airport (or Salerno Pontecagnano when there is flight availability), or by train Frecciarossa or Italo, as Salerno is the terminus station of both railway companies.
