La region is divided into three major areas: the mountainous zone with the Central Alps and, in particular, the Monte Adamello, the Ortles and the Bernina. Further south it slopes towards the Pre-Alps which enclose the beauty of the Lago Maggiore, the Lake Garda, the Lake Como, the Lake Iseo and the Lake Idro. Finally, here is the Po Valley, very extensive covering almost half of the region. Rich in provinces (Milan, Bergamo, Brescia, Cremona, Como, Lecco, Lodi, Pavia, Mantua, Varese and Sondrio), Lombardy is connected to the world through the airports of Linate and Malpensa, the main hubs flanked by Orio al Serio.
The region is a protagonist of tourism in the alpine resorts but also in the art cities, dotted with churches, fortresses, castles and very well-preserved historic buildings. Mantua is a rare beauty pearl, a land of culture and works of art, as well as Upper Bergamo which still today preserves the defensive walls around the historic center, from past medieval memories. Also remarkable is Brescia, rich in history and therefore of monuments already from Roman times.

The same Milan, long considered only a destination for work-related tourism, offers many attractions for tourists: from the classic Duomo with itsMadonnina, to the Navigli, to the Sforzesco Castle, to the La Scala Theatre up to the intriguing and educational National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci. And then Cremona, with its medieval Town Square where you can admire the Duomo, the Torrazzo, the Militi Lodge, the Baptistery and the Town Hall.
Rich in natural beauty is the Valtellina with the renowned Bormio, Livigno and Aprica. Finally, for a dive into the very remote past, in Lombardy you can still appreciate prehistoric rock engravings, present in Valcamonica. In this region, therefore, there is everything, depending on the type of holiday you wish to spend.
