What to do in Bibione: sea, nature, and sports

Bibione is one of the most popular seaside resorts among tourists. In recent years, it has been ranked as the second most visited seaside location after Rimini. But Bibione is not just about the sea. It also offers fun, nature, and relaxation.

È indubbio che Bibione sia soprattutto conosciuta per le vacanze balneari ma la località veneta offre anche altri spunti di attrazione. Vediamo cosa fare nella località blasonata della riviera veneta.

The Sea of Bibione

Bibione is one of the most appealing destinations for those looking for a beach vacation. The flow of tourists to the Venetian town ranks second only to better-known seaside locations such as Rimini. Consider that in 2009, about 6 million tourists arrived on the beaches of the Venetian town. Bibione is a seaside resort that emerged around the 1950s and has a rather unique location. It is an island surrounded by the Tagliamento River, which also gives part of the name to the municipality it belongs to. Bibione is also bordered by the Lugugnana Canal and the Venetian Coastline. It therefore faces the Adriatic Sea and features wide sandy beaches and shallow seabeds.

The Cycle Paths

Thanks to the construction of several cycle paths, Bibione is ideal for cycling enthusiasts. By bike, you can admire the charming landscape that stretches between the lagoon, the green pine forests, and the fishing valleys. The alternative to biking are walking tours, horseback riding paths, or, for those who love an even more active holiday, kayak routes.

Smoke-free beaches

On the shoreline of the Bibione beaches, there has been a smoking ban for some years now. A healthy initiative also considering the many children who usually play by the sea. But not only that. The initiative falls among those supporting non-smokers but also the environment itself, to preserve the nature of Bibione. The “off limits” area is indicated on specially placed signs.

Pluto’s Beach

Bibione is a “pet friendly” destination, not only due to the wide availability of hotels that welcome pets but also because of the existence of a stretch of beach perfect and equipped specifically for dogs. This is where the Pluto Beach is located, characterized by umbrellas fitted with leash anchors. Four-legged friends also have plenty of space dedicated to them between the umbrellas. Additionally, there are low fresh water showers to clean the dog’s fur, and you also have access to use deck chairs, sun beds, leashes, bowls, running water, and hygienic bags. The water area of Pluto Beach is available for dogs, and the cleanliness of the beach and sand is carefully maintained, as specific veterinary products are used. Clean, spacious, and well-equipped, Pluto Beach is the ideal place to spend beach holidays in the company of your trusted four-legged friend.

The Bibione Thermal Baths

Bibione, since the 1990s, has offered a significant spa service. Mud balneotherapy is one of the most recommended treatments, but the Bibione thermal baths are also ideal for vascular rehabilitation and inhalations. The Bibione thermal baths also offer other treatments such as chromotherapy and hydromassage and are affiliated with the National Health Service.

The Punta Tagliamento Lighthouse

Located east of Bibione, the Punta Tagliamento lighthouse is an ideal destination for walking or horseback riding enthusiasts, for lovers of two wheels, and for all those seeking nature diving experiences. Built in the early 20th century, when the beach was further advanced, the Punta Tagliamento lighthouse features a 21-meter cylindrical tower, making it visible up to about 15 miles from the coast. Due to coastal erosion, breakwater embankments have been constructed around the lighthouse. During the First World War, the lighthouse was bombed but immediately reconstructed afterwards.

Where to stay in Bibione

Bibione offers a very rich catalog of accommodations. In particular, in the Venetian seaside resort, you can find hotels, holiday homes, apartments, and B&Bs. The hotel and non-hotel offers, such as those proposed by the Serena agency, are suitable for all budgets and needs. You can thus opt for the greater freedom of a holiday home or apartment up to an all inclusive hotel offer.
