Il Museo is located in the Bourbon Complex of the Royal Convitto of Santa Maria delle Grazie. A complex of historical-architectural value located in the historic city center and culminating in the beautiful church, of Vanvitellian school, of Santa Maria delle Grazie on the oblong Piazza Parrocchia, a large square along the route of the millennial Via Appia. The exhibition is set up inside a hall, called the Bourbon Hall, of about 500 sqm of surface and also accommodates a space for conferences and the Permanent Municipal Nativity Scene; it also includes an outdoor garden for temporary outdoor exhibitions and performance of artistic and cultural nature. There are no architectural barriers and all spaces are accessible and visitable. The Museum obtained in January 2009 the Recognition from the Museums Sector of the Campania Region as a Museum of Regional interest. The current arrangement sees the exhibition area divided into settings representing various life contexts of the era ranging from the dawn of the twentieth century to the mid-century referring to the society and culture of the time present in the territory, namely the peasant society and culture originating from the entire area. The thematic areas in succession are: the fields – which host tools and implements related to fieldwork and the processing of agricultural products; prominently in this area you can see a mangano (crusher, tool used to smooth the land) of considerable size and two macennole (wooden hinged tool for hemp stripping); the road – where original tools from craftsmanship and artisan workshops are exhibited, the carpenter, the blacksmith, the winemaker………; the courtyard – where a simplified representation of a well and the related tools, such as the vinnolo (bindolo, a rotating tool for drawing water from the well) and the Cato (a cylindrical container made of wood or metal suspended from the vinnolo that brought water from the well to the surface to irrigate the fields or to water the animals), is on display. In this same area all the elements that were found in a peasant courtyard, i.e., supporting and complementing the field work, are present; the dwelling – the reconstruction of a peasant house, living environments, furnishings and utensils mainly related to the kitchen and the bedroom. As part of the exhibition of the Museum of Peasant Civilization, and integral part of it, a permanent Nativity Scene is set up that covers a total area of about 20 sqm, an entire bay of the Hall, inaugurated at Christmas 2003.
