Museo garibaldino di Besenello

The Garibaldian epic narrated in the places of the historic Battle of Bezzecca, a fundamental stage of the Third Italian War of Independence in 1866. The museum illustrates, on the ground floor, the events of 1866: with an exceptional diorama of the battle and a rich collection of period relics. Uniforms, documents, photographs, weapons: all contribute to outlining the events and their protagonists, starting from the victory telegram written by Garibaldi on July 21, 1866. On the upper floor, the story continues, accompanying the visitor through the tragedy of the First World War: here too numerous objects, from weapons to uniforms, but also an extraordinary bicycle of the Bersaglieri, present life and death at the front. There is also a section dedicated to the drama of many civilians who were deported starting from May 1915. The forced exodus was caused by the proximity of the area to the Italian border and the destinations of thousands of people were refugee camps in Bohemia and Moravia. The visit is finally completed with the ascent to the historical park of Colle di S. Stefano, with the military church-ossuary and the Italian trenches.
