E ancora nature, culture, tradition, modernity, but also lifestyle and the entire tourist experience. As a land rich in traditions, Bavaria boasts a rich cultural heritage. Around 1,150 collections and museums are visited each year by 20 million guests.

Music in Bavaria

218 theatres, operas, operettas, and musicals, of which 30 have their own ensembles, are recorded as cultural offerings. International accents place numerous performances and music weeks in theatres and the musical world. Emerging in the rich artistic landscape are Richard Wagner in Bayreuth and performances of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. Also, the wedding of Landshut and the passion play of Oberammergau excite visitors from all over the world.

Bavaria’s Castles

The approximately 45 castles, villages, and state residences attract more than 5 million people each year, with King Ludwig II’s castles at the top. The 12 large state museums of art and historic culture, such as the new and old pinacotheca, the modern pinacotheca, the Bavarian National Museum and the German Museum are the most significant.

There are increasing fans also of the extraordinary Bavarian themed roads: the Romantic Road, the Alpine Road, the Glass Road, the Mountain Road, the Franconian Beer Road and the Western Allgäu Cheese Road, the Porcelain Road, as well as the Roads of Kings and Emperors, connect the beauties of the most significant regions of the Free State of Bavaria. But these are not just the most famous main points and events that make Bavaria such a beloved region. The cities are imbued with art and culture, which also applies to the capital Munich and cities like Augsburg, Nuremberg, and Regensburg just as much as to the many small localities of the country. Here can be found regional music festivals centered on classical music, rock and pop up to jazz.

“Live and let live” is the motto of Bavarian sociability. Festivals belong to everyday culture just like the typical cuisine, with its unmistakable regional specialties. The “Delightfully Bavarian” production line leads the gourmet on the right path. Culinary offerings are numerous and varied: from the village inn to the most refined restaurant, from the wooden table to the exclusive decorated table.
