The Municipal Art Gallery stands within the splendid setting of the Public Gardens.
The neoclassical main facade was built in 1828, while the original block of the building, formerly the royal powder magazine, dates back to the late 1700s. It was in the early thirties that the building underwent further modifications to become an Art Gallery. The Museum is now the permanent home to the two most important Art collections of the Municipality of Cagliari: the Ingrao Collection, and the Sardinian Artists Collection, among which stand out the names of Francesco Ciusa, Giuseppe Biasi, Maria Lai, and Costantino Nivola.
