Festivaalit Suomessa

Suomalainen kesä tarkoittaa festivaaleja kaikenlaisille musiikkimieltymyksille: oopperasta ja klassisesta musiikista rockiin; baletista jazziin; tangosta villimpiin avantgarde-esityksiin.

Tickets are more than affordable, and the artists performing are among the best in the world. Several shows take place outdoors, against the backdrop of fairytale settings.

Il Festival dell’Opera di Savonlinna, for example, is held in the courtyard of the magnificent Olavinlinna Castle (Lake District); while the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Eastern Finland takes place inside a charming ancient church. In Seinajoki, a town in Ostrobothnia, on the occasion of the Tango Festival, people dance freely in the street, and the Helsinki Festival, which begins in mid-August, distributes its shows throughout all areas of the city.

But the highlight of the beautiful season is the Midsummer Festival, very ancient, celebrated on the weekend closest to June 21, the day when the sun sets only slightly in the south and not at all in the northern regions.
