The Roman-era monument surrounded the sacred area of the ancient city forum. The complex, recently restored, is located below the road level and is accessed via a staircase next to the Cathedral. The cryptoporticus, unique in its kind, consists of a two-nave gallery arranged on three sides divided by arches. Of striking beauty, the monument is often a setting for theatrical performances or themed evenings.
Access to the cryptoporticus is from Piazza Giovanni XXIII, on the left side of the Cathedral.
