What to see in Chamois
Chamois is a place you don’t pass through, you go to. The small mountain village can only be reached by the cable car starting from Buisson, a hamlet of Antey-Saint-André. Chamois has the characteristics of an alpine village. Houses built with natural elements (stone and wood) enriched, during the summer season, with geranium pots and flowers. In 2006 Chamois took the name of “pearl of the Alps”. The only vehicle allowed to circulate in Chamois is electric and can be used by reservation.
Great Balcony of the Matterhorn
Chamois is connected to “La Magdeleine” (1644 meters), another village to visit in the Aosta Valley, by a dirt road only walkable on foot (an easy route of about 4 kilometers) along the “Great Balcony of the Matterhorn”. Chamois is a place that attracts holidaymakers both in summer and winter. In summer it is a healthy place for those who love slow walks and mountain hikes. In winter, instead, it offers a relaxing holiday with zero traffic and is surrounded by numerous ski slopes.
Church of San Pantaleone
Chamois is a small mountain village that features small attractions such as the parish church of San Pantaleone whose current form dates back to 1838. Inside there is a carved wooden altar, the statue of Santa Barbara, a Madonna with Child, two statues dedicated to San Pantaleone, the wooden statue of Saint Anthony and Saint Lawrence.
Chamois Heliport
In the municipality of Chamois there is also an heliport where small tourist planes can land as well as being available to those who practice paragliding or hang gliding.
