The knowledge of instrumental material, which characterized the astronomical research of this Institute in the last century, is of great importance for a historical-scientific reconstruction of the observational and research activity carried out by the O.A.C.T., for studies concerning the technical and theoretical aspects of such instrumentation, for the level of skills and the role played in the development of knowledge by the optical and mechanical technicians who designed and built astronomical telescopes and other high-quality observation and measurement instruments.
The instruments have been restored and catalogued, with the purpose of making systematic research, identification, and study possible. The historical-instrumental material, properly arranged and illustrated, completes the educational path and testifies to the evolution of astronomy and astrophysics in this century, parallel to the history of the “Vincenzo Cerulli” Astronomical Observatory which continues to contribute successfully to the development of this ancient science and to the technological advancement it requires. The museum collection is arranged in a small museum within the Observatory premises, where it is possible to admire it through guided tours by the staff.
