Surrounded by a moat, the Castle of Otranto features an irregular pentagonal plan, three cylindrical corner towers, and, on the seaside, a sharp lance-shaped bastion added with the external bulwarks in 1578; on the bastion are the coats of arms of Antonio De Mendoza and Don Pedro da Toledo.
On the entrance portal stands the large coat of arms of Charles V.
