In the first room, cartographic and photographic material relating to the birth of the Borgo is displayed. The settlement of the Agro Pontino is documented by prehistoric finds, architectural, sculptural and ceramic fragments recovered during reclamation works, as well as original cartography from the 17th-18th centuries that testifies to the great transformations of the territory.
From the artifacts dated from 500,000 to 6,000 years ago, one passes to the lithic industry of the Pontinian Mousterian found along the valleys of the Astura, Gorgolicino-Cicerchia, and on the paleo shores of Lake Fogliano. Educational displays relating to the geological formation of the area accompany the visitor.
In the next two rooms, epigraphic, sculptural, ceramic and architectural material is exhibited, a sample of imported marbles and an interesting collection of ex-votos (in terracotta, lead and bronze), brick stamps and finds related to weaving. There is also a core of finds linked to the ancient routes and the stowing of amphorae (anchor stocks, amphora types, objects found in wrecks, etc.). In various showcases, lamps, Etruscan-Roman, Magna Graecian, Campanian and Roman vases are displayed to document the ancient occupation of the Pontine places. The numismatic section has been transferred from the “M.Valeriani” Museum.
