The only flat areas in Slovakia are in the south. The southwestern part contains Slovakia’s section of the Danube basin, while the southeastern region features the northernmost part of the Hungarian plain, the Michalovce lowland.
Forests cover about a third of Slovakia’s territory.
Slovakia (Slovàcchia or Slovacchìa), officially the Slovak Republic, is a landlocked country. It has a population of over 5 million and an area of around 49,000 square kilometers. The largest city and capital is Bratislava, while the second biggest city is Košice.
