Le uniche aree pianeggianti della Slovacchia sono a sud. A sud-ovest è presente la parte slovacca del bacino idrografico del Danubio mentre a sud-est la regione più settentrionale della pianura ungherese, la piana di Michalovce.
Le foreste ricoprono un terzo del territorio slovacco.
