The Museum is located inside the De Vargas Palace in Vatolla, a district of Perdifumo, a small town in the Cilento inland. The Palace, an ancient castle set to control the territory, repeatedly remodeled and of the traditional Cilentan type with terraced courtyards, hosted Gian Battista Vico for nine years (1686-1695), as the tutor of the children of the then-owner Marquis Rocca. The restoration of the representative area of the Palace, acquired by the Vico Foundation, took place in 1994, driven by the cultural necessity expressed in the form of an appeal by Elena Croce, daughter of the philosopher, and by Lawyer G. Marotta, president of the Institute for Philosophical Studies of Naples. Their heartfelt call was heeded by Lawyer V. Pepe, today president of the Giambattista Vico Foundation, supported by the Province represented by President A. Andria, who began the difficult restoration later completed by the Cilento Vallo di Diano National Park. The merit of the restoration carried out was confirmed by numerous authoritative testimonies, including the most gratifying from Prof. La Valva. Today, the heart of the museum complex is a conference room that hosts, in addition to meetings, seminars, and conferences of great quality and appeal, the prestigious Gian Battista Vico award.
