The museum originates from the collection of Mr. Salvatore Micali, who for over thirty years carefully gathered and preserved a remarkable heritage of radio devices. The Municipality managed the renovation of a building it owns, located on Via Vittorio Veneto, where the Museum is housed. The materials exhibited and preserved are of considerable value and constitute a fascinating journey into the ever-changing world of radio history. The Micali collection is consistent and continuous; it documents almost without gaps the evolution of transmission and reception systems and allows the creation of a historically and culturally founded itinerary. From the automatic Edison telegraph transmitter (USA, 1893) to crystal sets or those from the 1920s to the 1960s-70s, the pieces gathered in the Museum and orderly displayed there tell a piece of the history of civilization and technology that has led to today’s speed and complexity in the field of communications. The Museum’s collection also includes a bibliographic section (books and magazines) concerning the history and technology of radio communication. This section will be expanded to create a “specialized” subsection of the Radio Museum Library.
