In Marina, among the most renowned manufactories, there are the Ceramiche San Giorgio, with a sales point and a rich private collection available for visits upon request, because this is a manufactory that also boasts a long and seasoned collaboration with contemporary art masters, such as Lucio Fontana, Emilio Tadini, Milena Milani, Ugo Nespolo, and others. Another place not to miss is the nearby Ceramiche Mazzotti, with its characteristic sign in futuristic characters, founded by Giuseppe Bausin Mazzotti, who played a significant role in attracting to Albissola, at the beginning of the 1900s, a significant portion of the Italian artistic elite. Besides traditional ceramics, inside the factory, you can also admire the Giuseppe Mazzotti 1903 House-Museum, with unique pieces from the last century, many belonging to the Futurist era, and the garden with recent sculptures by artists connected to this manufactory. In Albissola Capo, the Sandro Soravia shop-atelier stands out instead, an eclectic ceramist who, after exhibiting throughout Europe, also created his own line of plates, small men, “fairy tale cones,” and other beautiful creations.
Shopping in Liguria Hunting for Albissola Ceramics
Albissola, a city of ceramics, gathers between the two coastal villages of Albissola Marina and Albissola Capo a small galaxy of ateliers, kilns, and workshops where this ancient and fertile art continues, and where you can purchase pieces of absolute value, such as vases, plates, pitchers, trays decorated with the classic white-blue pattern called Savona, or with multicolored floral designs inspired by Oriental ceramics.
