in Scotland there are several Harry Potter locations from the Castle to the wind-swept moors, bruised mirrors of water, majestic mountains, ravines and valleys called glens, dense forests, mysterious castles, and an atmosphere with typically gothic traits that have become the grand backdrop for the adventures of Harry Potter and friends.
In Glencoe, for example, in the Western Highlands of Scotland (where in 1692 forty members of the MacDonald clan were slaughtered by soldiers of King William III, an event that, according to well-informed sources, makes the area particularly dark), several scenes from “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” were filmed.
Between the villages of Torren and Torlundy, a cast of about 400 people created spectacular Harry Potter scenes, including that of the Hogwarts Express, the train that takes the magical students from platform nine and three-quarters at King’s Cross station in London to the School of Magic.
In Glencoe, also in Scotland, the hut of the gentle giant Hagrid was built, not far from the magical school of Harry Potter. The scenic twenty-one-arched Glenfinnan Viaduct, also in the Western Highlands of Scotland, was the star of a breathtaking scene in the film “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets“, when Harry and Ron are aboard an incredible flying Ford Anglia. They missed the train to Hogwarts and found nothing better than to travel among the clouds.
