The coasts of Sardinia appear high and rugged in the northern part of the island, becoming gentler, lower, and sandy in the south and west; this kind of formation is also respected inland, which is more mountainous in the north with Punta la Marmora of the Gennargentu massif (1834 meters). In the southern area, instead, the Campidano plain extends, softening the terrain.

Tourism represents one of the island’s main economic activities, as well as handicrafts. Sardinia is administratively divided into the provinces of Cagliari, Carbonia-Iglesias, Medio Campidano, Nuoro, Ogliastra, Olbia-Tempio, Oristano, Sassari.

The granite rock formations, shaped over centuries by the strong winds that blow across the island such as the Mistral and the Sirocco, are very beautiful and unique, resembling immense natural sculptures; examples include the Bear of Palau and the mushroom of Arzachena.

Sardinia’s underground is also full of attractions, both for the coastal caves and for the inland caves.
