The islet of Isolabella has been declared of significant historical and artistic interest and has been under protection since 1984. Isolabella is located in the center of a magnificent cove defined by Capo Sant’Andrea and Capo Taormina. The “Villa Caronia” complex is named after its last owner (Hon. Prof. G. Caronia) and consists of a small villa predominantly painted red, surrounded by about 1.60 hectares of land that harmoniously blends with the underlying Capo Taormina. The site features rugged terrain on the south – southeast side where dense Mediterranean scrub vegetation predominates, while the north – northeast part has a gentler morphology, where several terraces connected by paths and staircases supported by stone walls have been created. Due to the great variety and value of the planted species, the park was designated a “BOTANICAL GARDEN” in 1970 by the De Agostini Geographic Institute in the cartography created for the international flower and plant exhibition.
