The National Museum of Cinema was established in 1941 from an idea by Maria Adriana Prolo, who envisioned creating a place dedicated to collecting documents of the Turin film industry. Located since 1958 in Palazzo Chiablese, in July 2000 it was relocated to the Mole Antonelliana.
Currently, the Museum preserves a vast collection of precious materials, many unique worldwide: photographs, posters, advertising materials, devices and artistic artifacts, including one of the most important collections of cinema archaeology finds on an international level, as well as costumes, set objects, memorabilia.
The Film Archive collects silent and sound films and boasts an exclusive collection of Italian silent cinema reels; this is complemented by a Videotheque and a Phonotheque. The Archive also holds the collections of the largest production companies from Italian silent cinema, and the Media Library, thanks to the vastness and variety of its heritage, stands as one of the most prestigious cinema and photography documentation centers in Europe.
