The museum was born from the union of two collections that in 1973 were exhibited in the nearby Casa Natale di D’Annunzio: one collecting prehistoric and protohistoric materials found in the area at the end of the 1960s, and the other consisting of objects and documents related to the agro-pastoral life of the Abruzzo populations. Today housed in the undemolished part of the fortress of Pescara, where the so-called “Bourbon bath” is still preserved, the museum is divided into numerous rooms that tell the story of the long-lasting traditions and customs connected to the ways of living in these lands throughout the centuries of the region’s history. An ethnographic documentation center with a library and a historical and modern photographic archive, the museum is one of the most lively in Abruzzo.
