The Great Alpine Crossing is a long mountainous itinerant route that mostly runs at moderate altitudes.

Located in Italy among the Biella mountains, the Great Alpine Crossing is an exciting but demanding route, immersing you in a journey along mule tracks, easy trails, and accessible passes.

Also known as the GTA, the trail stretches over 55 daily stages, crossing the Alps, starting from Viozene (Ligurian Alps) and ending at Molini di Calasca (Anzasca Valley, Verbania). The Great Alpine Crossing was created in the late seventies and its entire route forms an itinerary approximately 1000 km long.

The paths are divided into South (Carnino – Barbara Lowrie Refuge), Central (Crissolo – Coda Refuge) and North (Coda Refuge – Molini di Calasca), moreover, it is possible to undertake several circular routes, including:

  • Ring of the Maira Varaita and Po Valleys
  • Ring of the Stura Maira and Varaita Valleys
  • Ring of Monviso
  • Ring of the Waldensian Valleys
  • Between the Po Valley and the Susa Valley
  • Massello Bourset Rocciavré Ring
  • Orsiera Rocciavré Park Ring
  • Ring between Valchiusella and Scalaro
  • Ring of the Lanzo Valleys
