Situata in Italy among the Biellese mountains, the Grande Traversata delle Alpi is an exciting but challenging route that will immerse you in a journey through mule tracks, easy trails, and accessible passes.
Also known as the GTA, the trail extends for as many as 55 daily stages, crossing the Alps, starting from Viozene (Ligurian Alps) and ending at Molini di Calasca (Anzasca Valley, Verbania). The Grande Traversata delle Alpi was born in the late seventies and its overall route forms an itinerary of about 1000 km.
The routes are divided into South (Carnino – Barbara Lowrie Refuge), Center (Crissolo – Coda Refuge) and North (Coda Refuge – Molini di Calasca), moreover, it is possible to undertake some loop routes, including:
- Loop of the Maira Varaita and Po Valleys
- Loop of the Stura Maira and Varaita Valleys
- Monviso Loop
- Loop of the Waldensian Valleys
- Between the Po Valley and the Susa Valley
- Massello Bourset Rocciavré Loop
- Orsiera Rocciavré Park Loop
- Loop between Valchiusella and Scalaro
- Loop of the Lanzo Valleys

The path is entirely signposted by the specific identifying symbol made up of three bands of red-white-red color with the writing GTA in the center. A journey into the alpine heart of Italy, among the Biellese mountains and the majestic Ligurian Alps that will give you a unique experience, breathing the pure but pungent air typical of mountain areas.
