It originates from the ongoing activity of the Cassa ente in initiating and expanding over time, with particular sensitivity, the collection of significant works by artists, especially local ones. The criterion underlying the formation of the collection naturally favored especially artists who, over time, have brought prestige to the city of Forlì and increased its cultural value. These are therefore works belonging to personalities who have gravitated and worked in Forlì and who belong to the Romagna city not only by birth but also because they trained or settled there to work and operate throughout their lives.
In 1992, when the Cassa ente split into S.p.A. and Foundation, the artistic heritage was transferred to the Banking Company. A recent event, in 2001, was the repurchase by the Foundation of the most significant historical-artistic portion, whose 20th-century works concern the figurative poetics of historical contemporary art, particularly by Gianna Nardi Spada, Pio Rossi, Felice Carena, Giuseppe Graziosi, Ludovico Tommasi, Gaetano Previati. The Forlì Savings Bank has also supported and promoted the exhibition dedicated to Gio Ponti in Forlì and continues its activity in this direction. In this regard, remember: “Pais Italia. Photos by Rodrigo Pais from 1955 to 1960,” “Maurizio Camporesi. Piazza e Romagnoli. 80s,” “Lena Papadaki. Crete of the Souls” and “Restored Treasures. Prints and drawings from the Piancastelli Collections” from 2008; “Augusto Antonio Dirani. A retrospective,” “Francesco Giuliari. Citations,” “Otello Turci. Matter becomes Life” and “Massimo Sansavini. Of the Sky and the Stars” from 2009, “A Generation in Turmoil – Art and Life at the End of the Twenties,” “Angelo Biancini. Portraits,” “Ugo Savorana. Ardebatut facula,” “The Sixties in Forlì focused by Angelo Sabatini. Images from the Historical Archive of the Photonews” and “Dante’s Inferno. Illustrated by Roberto Casadio” from 2010. Finally, in 2011, “Expressions of Faith in Art in Romagna between the 19th and 20th centuries,” “Pantieri: from ceramics to painting” and “Dum scribo spero. The art of writing. Writing in art.”
