The materials on display in the Antiquarium of Lucrezia Romana in Rome come from preventive archaeological investigations carried out in the former Municipality X (now part of VII) over the past twenty-five years, mostly from lands alongside the ancient Via Latina and its oldest natural course, known by the modern name Via Castrimeniense.

Presences dating back to the prehistoric era have been uncovered:

  • copper age necropolises (3rd millennium BC);
  • bronze age settlements (2nd millennium BC);
  • necropolises related to the Latial Culture (11th – 6th century BC);
  • evidence of land reclamation works from the republican era;
  • grave goods from chamber tombs of the middle republican period (late 4th to early 3rd century BC), attributable to family burials.

From villas, buildings and tombs of the late republican and early imperial periods come various marble sculptures. Most of the material from the imperial era comes from necropolises. The study of the grave goods deposited in the tombs introduces us to Roman private life, acquainting us with specialized craftsmanship through the offered objects: vases, lamps, jewelry, work and female toiletry materials, toys, providing information about fashion and customs.
