From June 3, for the first time, Frecciarossa will connect Turin and Reggio Calabria without any transfers. To also connect Sicily to the cities served by high-speed trains, together with the ticket for the Frecce it will also be possible to purchase a ticket for the high-speed ferry BluJet (FS Italiane Group) between Villa San Giovanni and Messina. The ferry and train schedules are integrated to ensure easy interchange between the two modes of transport.
The daily connection by Frecciarossa to and from Reggio Calabria is the main new feature of Trenitalia’s (FS Italiane Group) offer, which from the beginning of June includes 74 Frecce and 48 InterCity trains on the country’s main lines, doubling the number of trains available since the second phase of the COVID-19 health emergency began on May 18.
Trenitalia’s offer increases with a number of connections in line with current mobility demand, taking into account the 50% seat availability due to the “checkerboard” reservation system that ensures social distancing is maintained.
From June 3, travelers to and from Calabria will also benefit from two Frecciargento trains between Bolzano and Sibari. During phase 1 of the health emergency, Frecciabianca trains connecting Rome to Calabria were already running.
Trenitalia remains committed to having maximum attention to people’s needs, with health and hygiene as the top priority. On board Frecciarossa e Frecciargento a free safety kit (mask, hand sanitizing gel, latex gloves, and disposable headrest) is distributed, along with a can of water for all passengers.
By scanning the QR code placed on the tables with their smartphone, passengers can view information on the cleaning and sanitization processes of the trains.
